Project:
Design packaging for a new retail consumer product which tracks yard fertilization with drops of foam. This is a new concept for home owners, although the client has sold foam marking systems for farming and golf maintenance for years.
Challenges:
- The packaging needed to show what the product did and why it was beneficial
- The package needed to look like a yard mainenance product
- A logo was needed to further define the product
- The photo shoot was slated for fall. Except for the flat test patch at the manufacturer's, we didn't know anyone whose yard looked this good! We wanted something hilly and more home-looking.
Solution:
- Logo was developed showing the foam resting on top of blades of grass
- A tag line was developed to join with the logo
- Package dimensions were determined by fitting protypes into mock-up boxes we created at the studio
- Yellow was selected for visibility
- The photo was taken at a local Cedar Rapids park under a tree
- The house was from a stock photo, but altered and flipped to fit with the compositional flow of the layout
- A few trees were removed in PhotoShop
